President’s Message

Dear Members:

Here's hoping all of you have a safe and happy holiday season and great wishes for a wonderful New Year.

Respectfully,
Eva

PERIOPERATIVE NURSES:

VITAL TO CARE
KNOWLEDGE TO SHARE

Perioperative Nurse Week
November 13-19, 2005

The week at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital was celebrated by the staff in a variety of ways. As reported by Phyllis Barrell, "We organized a breakfast put on by the OR staff for the hospital; we all brought in breakfast stuff and set it up in our lounge and invited the other hospital employees to come and join us. This went over with a bang, and we got several thank-you notes and cards. We also did 3 drawings for prizes; one of the surgeons donated a leg of lamb, another donated 2 bags of Lindt chocolates and our department ordered 5 AORN lunch bags to raffle off. We also got AORN pens and buttons for each person in our department. We did a drawing every day for the AORN lunch bags and Cindy, our manager, purchased another prize to raffle off. In the thought process of Vital to Care, Knowledge to Share, we put together some statistics on the OR and the OR staff; it was neat to see how many years people have been working in the OR and providing anesthesia, etc. Last, but certainly not least, we had a young lady who is interested in perioperative nursing; she is a high school student and daughter of one of our administrative personnel. She came 2 afternoons during the week to see what we do."

A SAFETY TIP:
Paramedics often turn to a victim's cell phone for clues to the person's identity. You can make their job easier with a simple idea: ICE

ICE stands for In Case of Emergency. If you add an entry of ICE in the contacts list of your cell phone in the I section, with the name and phone number of the person emergency services should call on your behalf, you can save them a lot of time and have your loved ones contacted quickly. ICE your cell phone today!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
