President’s Message

Greetings for 2008-2009,

I am looking forward to this year as your president.  I think we have lined up interesting programs starting with this fall.  Bariatric surgery will be the focus for the October 4th presentation at DHMC.  Please plan to attend and participate.  We will have hands on use of the Hover mat for those who are interested.

I also want to encourage all to participate in politics this year.  Please plan to vote in November.  I firmly believe that nurses have and do impact our government.  By belonging to AORN you support and impact decisions on the hill via AORN’s legislative branch.  You can do more by voting at the polls on November 4.  If you are away, obtain an absentee ballot from your town.  Please get out and vote, and encourage others to do the same.   Thank you for doing so.

I am looking forward to seeing you at DHMC.  Please bring a friend or two and network with your colleagues.

See you October 4th

Respectfully,

Eva

Eva Daniels, RN, BSN CNOR

President:  Chapter 3001 AORN

Perioperative Nurse Week

November 9-15, 2008

Highlights of the June 19 2008 meeting

Ř      We met at the Hartland Dam in North Hartland VT for a picnic

Ř      Chapter 3001 Election results were announced; please welcome Linda Thompson as President-elect; Lorraine Heslop was re-elected as Treasurer; 2 new members of the Board of Directors are Pauline Smith and Kim Cotter; Donna Trudelle was elected to the Nominating Committee.  Eva Daniels has graciously accepted the role as President.

Ř      Educational events were discussed; we will be planning a minimum of 4 meetings in the upcoming year; host sites will be DHMC, Cheshire Medical Center , Concord Hospital and the VA. If you are interested in hosting a meeting at your site, please contact any member of the Board of Directors.

Ř      Lorraine Heslop has been conducting a phone survey of Chapter 3001 members to find out how we can increase member involvement and to discover the reasons for low turnout at events.  A full report will be available at a later date.

Ř      Treasurer Lorraine Heslop gave a financial report; the Chapter continues to be in good financial shape; 2 CD’s will be renewed over the summer.  Of note, Lorraine has the original financial diary of the Chapter, dating back to 1955!

Thank You Roanne!!

Roanne Rogerson has been an active member of the Chapter for many years.  For the past 3 years she has graciously been the president elect and then the president, taking on this prolonged role in response to the illness of a Chapter member.  She has had a car trunkful of Sweet Feet, hosted many board meetings at her home, and represented the Chapter at Congress multiple times.  Thank you Roanne for your leadership and support.  Roanne has stepped down from the Presidency, handing the responsibility onto another gracious volunteer, Eva Daniels.  Thank you both for your continuing support of the chapter.

AORN CONGRESS

ANAHEIM CALIFORNIA

MARCH 30-APRIL 3 2008

Chapter 3001 delegates were Lisa Ryder, Donna Barber and Kim Cotter.  Alternates were Roanne Rogerson and Kara Berns.  Kara was also the recipient of $100 for submitting her application to our “It’s my First Time to AORN Congress” promotion.

The big news we heard at Congress was the new alliance with the ANA.  As an AORN member, we now have access to online resources through our ANA Affiliate Membership.  ANA individual Affiliate members receive access to Members Only on Nursingworld.org where they can enjoy unique members-only content such as:

Ř      Online journals such as American Nurse Today, The American Nurse and OJIN.

Ř      Free and discounted CE

Ř      Unique content

Ř      Benefit programs that augment AORN’s existing offerings

Anticipating this partnership, ANA has set us up to access the Members Only content by using the letters “OR” before your AORN membership number as the login; the password is your last name (no caps).  Once logged in you can change your password.

MOBILE OPERATING ROOMS

On Saturday March 8 2008 we met at the VA Medical Center in White River Junction VT to learn more about the mobile operating rooms in place at the VA.  Lisa Ryder presented the unique aspect of closing down a whole department for renovation and the move to temporary quarters and the use of mobile operating rooms from Mobile Medical International Corporation (MMIC).  Randy North from MMIC presented a fascinating look at the possible uses for these ORs.  We toured the 2 units in place at the VA.

There were 9 participants.

Thanks to Lisa Ryder for coordinating this event.

Specialty Assemblies

You can change your Specialty Assembly by calling AORN Customer Service. .
