President’s Message               Greetings to Chapter 3001 Members,

Dear Members,

The car rally on October 8, was unfortunately in the pouring rain, but that did not keep us from having a fun filled morning. Many thanks to Ruth Sedgwick, her committee and her husband, Larry for their hard work in putting the rally together. Many awards were given, including one for
best costume, which went to Janice Mendenhall. This year's rally was a bit shorter than last year's and took us on dirt roads, through covered bridges, to Simon Pearce in Windsor, Vt. and back for lunch at the Plainfield Grange.
Our next meeting is November 5th at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) in Lebanon, NH.
Please plan on attending the CEU program, "The Face of a Child", presented by plastic surgeon, Dr. Stotland. The business meeting will follow the session at noon. We will be collecting yarn, beads, buttons and pins to donate to the "Tapestry of Diversity" project. Please bring them to the November meeting.
As you know, Perioperative Nurses Week is November 13-19 2005. The theme for the week is "Vital to Care-Knowledge to Share". Please take the time to do something to share your knowledge of perioperative nursing with the next generation of nurses. For suggestions regarding this topic,
check out aorn.org. A short note to your locl newspaper to explain about Perioperative Nurses Week and the role of the perioperative nurse is a simple way to enlighten the community.
I look forward to seeing you on November 5th. As always, non-members of the chapter are more than
welcome.

Respectfully,

Eva

What Attending Chapter Meetings Can Do For You

Whether you are looking for ways to save time, to find your next job or to develop relationships that help build your business, your network is an important tool to achieving your goals. One of the best places to network is at your local chapter meetings.

1.      Your creativity is increased. When you talk to your nursing buddies, you get other points of view.  By seeing the world from different perspectives, your mind gets stimulated and new ideas are often born.

2.      You can solve problems with more ease. Whether challenged by finding better marketing, developing more efficiency or dealing with difficult bosses/employees, odds are someone in your chapter has had a similar experience.

3.      You have a support team. In this era of great change and time shortage, it’s nice to know that you’re not alone.  In fact, developing good relationships is one way to lower your stress!

4.      You have access to other’s best practices. Best practices can help you cut costs and increase productivity.  In other words, do more with less work!  Make a habit of talking with your network about what is the most valuable thing they’ve learned and what works well for them.

5.      You’ll be able to accomplish more in less time. Having a diverse network creates a variety of minds for you to tap for answers-that might take you tons of time to find on your own!  Become a resource in your expertise for your peer and they will do the same for you.  Bottom line, building your network at meetings is a smart way to increase the return you get from making the time to be involved in your chapter.

 Just for Fun…..

How many nurses does it take to change a light bulb?

  • Six.  One to check the policy, one to obtain approval from the manager, one to order the bulb from central supply, one to fax the order to engineering, one to call engineering and tell them to watch for the faxed order, and one to write up the incident report.

How many chiropractors does it take to change a light bulb?

  • Only one, but it takes 15 visits.

How many psychologists does it take to change a light bulb?

  • None. The bulb will change itself when it is ready.
