POT
LUCK JUNE 1
Due to the wonderful opportunity to meet the current
president and Secretary of AORN, we will not be holding the June 1st
pot luck at Linda Thompson’s house.
FALL FUN CAR RALLY OCT 2, 2004
For the fall, we will be holding a fun car rally. Ruth
Sedgwick
is organizing this event. We will wander through the
beautiful
countryside of NH and VT during what we hope will be
peak
foliage. We will meander over covered bridges, have
treasure
hunts along the way, conclude with a barbeque lunch
and
a secret spot and just have wonderful fellowship time with
our colleagues.
Mark your calendars now and we will get more
specific information out to you as the date draws near.
AORN
CONGRESS 2005:
The 52nd
Congress will be in New Orleans. We encourage all who have
never attended to consider this awesome opportunity.
All that attended
the 51st Congress in San Diego had a wonderful time.
The
speakers were motivational and inspiring. “ It was an awesome
experience
to
be there” Beth Jones from DHMC said. The educational sessions
were
informative and often emotional. Michele Hassall
from DHMC attended the
Duke University’s “sentinel event that received national-wide if
not
world-
wide publicity…… involving incorrect organs being transplanted
into a
young
girl”.
Patrick Sullivan of DHMC was impressed with a program on
minimally
invasive hip surgery which he said “actually offered a window into
a
future
common approach to total hips”.
Many of the programs focused on Patient Safety. Linda Thompson
noted
that Bill Duffy, our current president is interested in workplace
safety as
well
as patient safety. We work in a difficult environment which is
fraught
with
dangers and ergonomic issues. Linda writes “I am thrilled that
this will be
a
focus during the coming year and that considerable attention will be
given
to
this critical issue.”
Deb Hastings, Clinical Specialist for Perioperative Services at DHMC
will
now be one their PNDS experts having attended most of the sessions
offered.
Deb writes “ The PNDS was developed by the membership of AORN in
an
effort to describe, define, and establish a data set that represents
the
specifics
of perioperative nursing practice.”
Hope
to see you all in Concord June 5th.
