President’s Message

Dear Members:
Congress is coming up in March and I am so jealous of all who are attending! What a great place to have AORN Congress, with all the things to do and history to take in. The mall is a must, as are the war memorials. Please take the time to visit these wonderful sites. The Tapestry of Diversity will be on display at the convention. It has been woven with fabric and yarn donations from all the AORN chapters, including ours; please take a moment to view it. Delegates for our chapter this year are Monte Murphy (Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital), Linda Thompson (DHMC) and Lisa Ryder (VA Medical Center). Please contact them with your issues, concerns and/or voting suggestions. They are representing Chapter 3001 and welcome any feedback from the chapter members.

  Respectfully,
Eva

BEYOND THE CUTTING EDGE

Michael Curtis MD spoke to a full house at the Dwinell Room at Harvest Hill on Saturday, January 14, 2006. There were 40 participants for his wonderful talk and slide show. Dr. Curtis started the program with fabulous slides of his adventures in Africa. His surgical experiences were both fascinating and touching. He then went on to describe the work he is doing at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital with Green Light Prostatectomy or PVP (photoselective vaporization of the prostate). The laser was then discussed by the sales rep, Tony.
Many thanks to the staff of APD and in particular to Dr. Curtis and Monte Murphy RN.

For more information about this type of prostate surgery, see the Home Study Program in the February 2006 issue of the AORN Journal.
